Delahunty & Nash LLP Expands White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice with Addition of Former Federal Prosecutor

George Tran, a highly respected former federal and California prosecutor, has joined the firm as Of Counsel.

Mr. Tran’s practice will focus on complex white collar criminal defense, government and corporate investigations, commercial litigation, and business disputes. He joins Delahunty & Nash following more than a decade in public service, most recently with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office, where he was selected to establish and lead the Organized Retail Theft unit to innovate effective strategies to stymie organized theft rings in the Bay Area, and then later joined the Consumer and Environmental Protection unit.

Previously, Mr. Tran served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Alaska, where he led several large and complex investigations into white collar criminal matters involving financial fraud, embezzlement, public corruption, tax evasion, as well as violent criminal offenses.  Over the course of his career, he has directed multi-agency investigations, advised federal and state law enforcement on subpoena and search warrant strategy, and litigated issues involving discovery, filter review teams, Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), California ECPA, source of bail, bail, search and seizure, motions to quash, among other procedural and legal questions.

Among his notable matters, Mr. Tran prosecuted multiple former public officials for the misappropriation and embezzlement of government funds, earning a commendation from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of the Inspector General for his work in securing the indictment of two nonprofit directors, one of whom was also a public official, accused of diverting millions in COVID-19 relief funds for personal use.  He has successfully handled three federal trials, including a rare prosecution for international parental kidnapping, in which a U.S. national abducted his children to the Philippines and concealed them from their other parent for years.

Mr. Tran’s deep trial experience includes more than 30 trials and a breadth of contested hearings that he handled across federal and local courts, earning him a highly respected reputation in the legal community.

Beyond his public service career, Mr. Tran was a former associate at an Am Law 100 law firm where he represented clients in high stakes commercial litigation and business disputes. Throughout his career, including now at Delahunty & Nash, he represents clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to family-owned businesses, and is dedicated to serving clients ranging from individuals to small partnerships to large corporations.

Mr. Tran earned his J.D. from UC Law SF (formerly UC Hastings) and his B.A. in Psychology from UCLA. He is a panelist, advisor, and member of UC Berkeley School of Law’s Prosecutor in Residence Program, and active member of many local and national bar associations, including the Silicon Valley LGBTQ+ Bar Association, The Natonal LGBTQ+ Bar Association, Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley, and Bar Association of San Francisco.
